Autism Education Trust Conference

Outline

North Yorkshire County Council, in conjunction with the Autism Education Trust (AET) are pleased to announce a full day continual professional development event. The Autism Education Trust (AET) are offering making sense of autism training to all settings from early years to schools to post-16. The event is open to delegates from any area. The cost of the event is reduced due to subsidised funding from the AET.

Description

Basic autism awareness training for all staff within early years, schools and post-16 settings who need an understanding of autism in their role. The training helps staff to understand the basic principles of autism and its impact on the child/young person. Best outcomes for children are seen when all members of the staff attend the session including head teachers, senior management, teaching staff, support staff, lunchtime supervisors, Governors, administrative staff, drivers and escorts, regular supply staff, Early Years Foundation Stage practictioners, Learning Support Mentors, etc.

Outcomes

Participants will be able to: develop a greater understanding of the four key areas of difference that need to be taken into account when working with children with autism; the importance of understanding the individual child with autism and their profile of strength and weaknesses; the key areas to help children with autism build positive relationships with staff and their peers; the fact that many children with autism can be unusually sensitive to everyday sights, sounds, touch, tastes and smells which affects their learning and emotional state.

The AET making sense of autism training sessions will be specific to the practitioners own settings i.e. early years, schools and post-16.
